Mission Statement

 

The Kell High School Robotics Team is an extracurricular activity at the Carlton J. Kell High School in Marietta Georgia. The high school is a Georgia Public school that is part of the Cobb County School District. This program complements the schools missions by creating hands on opportunities to motivate and educate students.

Kell Robotics is not an advocacy society for robotics. The team’s mission is to create a culture where studying, participating, and achieving accomplishments in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics activities are celebrated.

Key focus areas include safety, environmental sustainability, women in engineering, and the exhibition of the human imagination in applying science and engineering to solve the problems facing mankind.

·         What you do/services rendered

 

We create innovative methods to change public perceptions of science and engineering.

 

We do this by creating exciting programs like our robot to clean up trash from bodies of water, public outreach, film, web, and graphic communications, and diversity programs.

 

We exhibited our programs at the high profile Green Concert featuring Paul McCartney at Piedmont Park, at Atlanta’s Olympic Centennial Park events, and the at Georgia Science Olympiad championship.

 

Our FIRSTsteps marketing program promotes FIRST in Georgia.

 

We have a film group that produces video for the general public across the globe.

 

We have a statewide art contest for elementary-aged children with a companion lesson plan that allows them to become familiar with robots and their applications.

 

 

·         Relationships and information regarding current sponsors

 

We have partnered with the Georgia Department of Education to promote FIRSTsteps. We provide content to satellite broadcaster Marine Business TV and locally to CobbEdTV. We have a strong partnership with our school district, the Women in Technology Foundation, General Electric and our other sponsors. We partner with Georgia Tech for OSHA safety training and the Georgia Aquarium for promoting robotics education. We have also established relationships with state and federal legislators

 

 

·         Summary of team growth –what have you done in the past leading up to this point

 

We have worked to innovate and test ways to connect to a broad public audience. We have a women’s program, film and communications group. We integrate public communications, education outreach, environmental sustainability, in a unique way to help people understand the importance of science and engineering.

 

We follow a strong business plan that helps us to stay focus on our goals. The plan is important because it helps us stay focused. Strong leadership is needed to prevent things from falling into disarray. We constantly remind our team of our mission, why it is important, and how we are going to proceed.

 

 

Summary of team’ future plans –what are your plans for growth in the next 12 months in the areas of sponsorship, team and community outreach (including helping FIRST grow)

 

·         Pursuant to our business plan we will continue to improve our ability to alter public perceptions of the value science and engineering.

 

·         Build second generation robot for environmental cleanup.

 

·         Expand FIRSTsteps to deliver content about FIRST via on demand video and other new media methods.

 

·         Create PSAs about FIRST including short documentaries, recruitment video, and other types of communication.
