THE GUEST FOR A DAY PROGRAM PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
PROGRAM METHODOLOGY
Events and outreach efforts are identified by the team that will allow guest students to participate during the day and provide guest students with a glimpse into the team experience.
Active students of good character and academic and/or athletic achievement are recommended by the faculty to the team. The team will invite the guest students to participate in the one day event or outreach effort. The guest student may accept or decline the invitation without further obligation.
Guest students should plan to have a busy and exciting day performing a community outreach effort, watching matches, socializing, and browsing exhibits. They should keep in mind that they have been selected by recommendation to represent Kell High School, Cobb County School District, and FIRST, and should behave in an appropriate manner.
The competition isn’t limited to the arena but is much larger and encompasses the entire facility, including areas that are not immediately evident. Guest students should think of the competition as being similar to a football game or other sporting event. Interaction with the robotics team may be minimal as many team members are fully engaged with executing the total competition that includes various activities.
Every effort will be made for team members to interact with the guest students. Competition timelines may limit that time. Guest students should expect to operate with minimal guidance from the team.
GUEST STUDENT ORIENTATION
Prior to the event, guest students are to attend a mandatory orientation. Topics to be covered will include required attire, transportation arrangements, expected behavior, and any other additional material.
INFORMATION FOR TEAM MEMBERS
Team members are expected to prepare for the guest student program. Special attention is to be given to understanding team dynamics and socialization issues.
Team leaders in conjunction with team mentors are responsible for designing and implementing all training programs. This includes, but is not limited to, team training, guest training, faculty training, and safety training.
INFORMATION FOR FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION
Due to the event being a school field trip, Cobb County School District policy requires the presence of school faculty and/or administrative personnel. These personnel are there to provide team support for administrative and disciplinary actions as required by school policy and team needs.
Personnel that are not active team mentors/coaches should not interfere with, distract, or instruct team personnel in the pursuit of their assigned duties.
All decisions and instructions regarding the execution of competition, on and off the arena, are the sole responsibility of the team captains and mentors/coaches.
